Genuine products
How to check that a product is authentic and covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and what to do if you suspect a counterfeit.
Check a product with our service team
To check whether a product is genuine, ask our service team. Have the brand, model and serial number ready.
Why authorised channels matter
We are an authorised distributor of 41 brands. A product bought through an authorised channel comes with the brand's warranty and support. One from an unknown source may not.
-
Warranty
Brands honour warranty on products sold through their authorised channels. A product from an unknown source can be refused service, even if it works today.
-
Safety
Counterfeit power adaptors, power supplies, batteries and UPS units can lack the protections of the genuine part. This matters most for anything that carries mains power.
-
Performance
Fake or relabelled storage and memory can report more capacity than they hold, and imitation cameras and recorders can lack features and firmware updates.
-
Service
A genuine serial number is known to the brand, so its service centre can confirm the product and its warranty status.
How to check a product is genuine
-
Check the invoice
Buy against a GST invoice from an authorised distributor or dealer. It should show the seller's GSTIN, the model and, where the product has one, the serial number. Keep it: it is also your proof of purchase for warranty.
-
Check the serial number with the brand
Enter the serial number on the brand's official warranty or product check page, where the brand has one. The page tells you whether the serial number is valid and, for some brands, the warranty status. The brand check pages are listed below.
-
Check the packaging and seals
Look for intact factory seals, and a model number and serial number on the box that match the label on the product. The printing should be clean, the brand name spelt correctly and the accessories the ones listed on the box. Be careful with a box that looks opened or resealed.
-
Register the warranty where the brand offers it
Some brands let you register a product online with its serial number and purchase date. Registration can make a later claim easier. Keep the invoice either way.
Official serial number and warranty checks
These pages belong to the brands themselves. Enter the serial number printed on the product label.

If you suspect a counterfeit
-
Stop using the product
This matters most for power adaptors, power supplies, batteries and UPS units. Disconnect it from the mains.
-
Keep everything
Keep the product, the box, the seals, the accessories and the invoice. Do not try to open or repair the product.
-
Take photographs
Photograph the box, the seals, the product label with its serial number, the product itself, the accessories and the invoice.
-
Note where it came from
Write down the seller's name, city and phone number, the date of purchase and the invoice number.
-
