Choosing video door phones
Choose a video door phone by system type, the number of indoor monitors and door stations, and how the lock will be released. The wiring on site decides the system type more than the feature list does.
- Analog or IP
- Analog kits connect each door station to a monitor over a dedicated multi-core cable, and the door station takes its power from the monitor. IP models use network cabling with PoE or a 12 V supply, which suits buildings that already have a network.
- Monitor size and position
- The monitors here have 7 inch screens. Mount the monitor with its screen centre at about 1.4 to 1.6 m above the floor, and the door station camera at a similar height.
- Weather rating
- Outdoor stations are rated IP65 or IP66, on condition that the gap between the station and the wall is sealed with silicone sealant as the quick start guide describes.
- Lock release
- The door station switches the lock through a relay. Check the relay's rating against the lock's voltage and current, and power the lock from its own supply so that a lock surge does not reset the intercom.
- Night view
- The door camera has automatic IR for night use. Avoid positions where a bright light shines straight into the lens, and check the view at the height of a visitor's face.
